There are a lot of different choices and companies who offer outboard motors, and one of the top companies is Honda. Most of us have heard of Honda, a Japanese company that has been making engines for years, for the automotive industry and the boating sector. It has been making quality outboard motors for many years, and Honda knows how to give consumers what they want, what they need, and some added extras that boating types, like us, never knew we wanted.

The BF115

Honda has shown what the future of outboard motors will be like at the Boat Show in Miami, with the BF115, with plans to release the final version in the lat three months of this year. The technology in the BF115 engine is derived from Honda's inline 4 cylinder 2.4 liter DOHC engine, seen in their Accord range of cars. This engine technology, exclusive to Honda, gives the engine more power and fuel efficiency than other engines on the market.

Honda's BLAST System

The power of the engine is explosive in its speed and acceleration, making use of Honda's Boosted Low Speed Torque air/fuel ratio system, which gives the engine an advanced control over ignition timing. This means more speed output for the energy put into running the motor. This is combined with high-performance gear casing. These two features in the one outboard motor with give you a lot more speed, with the fuel efficiency required by customers.

ECOmo Technology

A new system in the outboard motor, known as the ECOmo, which stands for Economy Controlled Motor, is introduced into this latest series of engines. Following tests done, it was shown that the ECOmo technology makes the new engines 20% more fuel efficient than the previous models, a giant leap forward in this area, and also making the engine more environmentally friendly. The ECOmo system kicks into gear at the time the engine torque is mid-level, and when the throttle is held steady, to keep the fuel system and engine flowing the way that it should. For the high-tech boater, the BF115 offers the ability to see engine information on digital devices, so you know what your outboard motor is doing and when. This system uses the NMEA-2000 technology, which makes it compatible with digital boating technology. This means that you will know what your engine is doing, and you will be given alerts if there are any problems or changes within the motor system, as well as monitoring your fuel and the temperature of the engine.

While not being released until the third quarter of this year, Honda's BF115 looks like an exciting engine, and more information will be made available over time.

Can my 2007 honda pilot 2wd tow a fishing boat?

I have a 2007 honda pilot 2wd and looking forward to buying a fishing boat, but I dont know how many lbs. the boat and trailer has to be under? And do I need the whole towing package or not for a 30 minutes flate road drive to the lake?

Always refer to your owners manual. Extremely important, as well, is the "category" of "hitch" installed. Traditionally Honda, with tow package, installs a "category I", up to 1500 pounds. If the manual indicates up to 3500 pounds this requires a "category 3" tow package. Always have the tow package professionally installed.

Keep in mind when looking for a boat that your Pilot can tow acording to manual specs. Brochures on boats indicate weight of boat only. Fishing boats will offer outboard motors with different horsepower and weights. The trailer weight must be added also. You will want to fill your tanks before you get to the water and this will add approx. 7 pounds per gallon (actually 6.2 per).

A weight "check list": Weight of boat + motor + trailer + fuel. I typically add another 100 to 300 for coolers, gas tanks and other gear.

DO NOT GO OVER RECOMMENDED WEIGHT indicated by Honda. If you do you will burn up the engine and/or transmission. The "rear end" is not capable of weight over the limit as well and you may "rip" this apart.

I sold a lot of boats over the years. I learned to find out vehicles that customers would be using and 50% + did not have adequate towing capabilities. Warranties on your vehicle will not cover damage due to towing and service centers know immediately if this is the case. Honda Pilots are in no way designed for heavy towing and when shopping for a fishing boat do not go too heavy with all weights I have indicated factored in.
